2.2 Employment & Unemployment Rate
Labour force participation rate dropped to 30.6% for the working age population (i.e. over 15 years) in 2017 compared to 33.8% during 2016. This is equivalent to 29.5 million. The unemployment rate during the same year is 11.8%, equivalent to 3.5 million unemployed, according to the official statistics of CAPMAS. New entrants into labour market are estimated at around 500,000 each year.

Employment distribution between the different sectors reveals that the agriculture sector is the dominant one, absorbing around 25% of total employment during 2017, as shown below:
