1. General Information

1.4 Infrastructure
Being one of the prerequisites for investment, the government pays great attention to developing and upgrading infrastructure. More than USD 15 billion have been invested in roads, electricity networks and irrigation projects over the last year, in line with government’s reform planning.

Egypt has over 21 airports to serve different touristic, industrial and mining locations. In October 2016, two new international airports (Katameya International Airport and Sphinx International Airport) were launched to cover more areas, facilitate transportation and ease the growing traffic on Cairo International Airport. In addition, there are four key marine ports utilised by manufacturers and traders, namely; Suez Port, Damietta Port, Port Said, and Port Sokhna.

Egypt has a well-established network of roads. In 2014, a national roads project was initiated with the aim of increasing the road network and the quality of roads. The project established 24,000 kilometres of roads nationwide. By 2020, another 7,000 kilometres are to be implemented. The project will facilitate connectivity among cities in an attempt to facilitate mobility and encourage investment nationwide. As a result of this national project, Egypt’s ranking in the global roads quality has climbed from the 118th in 2014 to 75th in 2018.
