There are two laws that regulate the international trade in Egypt; the Customs Tariff Law No. 66 of 1963 (currently under review) and the Import & Export Regulations Law No. 118 of 1975 and their amendments.
Egypt’s trade policies and practices aim at trade liberalisation. Egypt is an active member in the World Trade Organization (WTO), and accordingly, like all member countries, it cannot construct trade policies that affect world trade and create barriers of any kind. However, for national reasons, countries could apply some restrictions on the short-run to protect the local industries.
